April 2020

April was the cruellest month so far in 2020, keeping us locked down at home to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. Until now, mentioning the global pandemic was irrelevant to this blog but staying at home does affect book acquisitions, since not every reader orders online.

With the government classifying book-selling as a non-essential service, bricks-and-mortar stores have to temporarily close their doors for as long as the state of emergency lasts. As the global economy grinds to a halt, the local independent business has great cause for concern -- they just might not survive to see recovery.

So during these trying times, let's support the neighbourhood bookstore as best we can, however we can, for even they have families to feed. We look forward to the day when we can stand inside their doors again.
